KYTV Keeps Rolling with Broadcast Equipment and Sat-Lite

KYTV Hits the Street with New Sat-Lite 1.8m Peloris

Springfield, MO station KYTV recently hit the road with a newly installed 1.8m DSNG system. The system—which was configured and installed by Broadcast Equipment—features the Sat-Lite 1841 PELORIS 1.8 Meter Motorized Vehicle-Mount SNG Antenna. The project involved replacing a legacy 2.4 meter antenna which suffered from a failing pan motor (custom in its day) and no ability to maintain the old antenna. In the process, Broadcast Equipment installed the new antenna, upgraded the RF workflow, retained the station’s dual thread DSNG capability, and performed testing and training with KYTV.

With so much ENG evolution these days, broadcasters gamble on which technologies to maintain and which to replace entirely. In this case, the original truck’s body was placed on a new chassis recently which extends the life of the unit considerably. The broadcast workflow included some recent HD upgrades centered around an AJA FS-1 yet had the ability to patch “most anything to anywhere.” Given these recent investments it made sense to replace ailing DSNG antenna since, by doing so, the station can extend the life of both the vehicle and the broadcast system.

KYTV’s DMA is vast and the topography is dynamic. More importantly, it includes the Branson, MO viewership which draws the KYTV resources regularly to feed news and event coverage back to the Springfield area. Using microwave facilities is not always a reliable tool in the market—which means that maintaining the investment in the KYTV DSNG truck is extremely worthwhile.
