WTVW Keeps Rolling with Broadcast Equipment and Sat-Lite

WTVW Hits the Road with Broadcast Equipment

Evansville, IN station WTVW recently hit the road with a newly installed 1.2m DSNG system. The system—which was configured and installed by Broadcast Equipment—features the Sat-Lite 1311 Peloris 1.2 Meter Motorized Vehicle-Mount SNG Antenna. The project involved replacing a legacy 1.2 meter antenna which suffered from old age and a recent collision. In the process, Broadcast Equipment installed the new antenna, upgraded the RF workflow, enhanced the system’s satellite locating capability, and performed testing and training with WTVW.

With so much ENG evolution these days, broadcasters gamble on which technologies to maintain and which to replace entirely. In this case, the truck was new enough not to replace yet old enough that it required some updates. Switching of polarity and the process of locating satellites was updated from an old manual workflow to the new Cirrus controller—also from Sat-Lite. Given these recent investments it made sense to replace the DSNG antenna since, by doing so, the station can extend the life of both the vehicle and the broadcast system.

WTVW’s DMA is vast and the station uses the DSNG capability routinely to feed regional stories to the network and affiliates. While the station does own and operate some newer tools for ENG the DSNG system in this case is till a main money-maker. Using microwave facilities is not always a reliable tool in the market.
